More About Polk Audio

This company was founded in 1972 by Matthew Polk, Sandy Gross and George Klopfer. These three knew each other when they were going to Johns Hopkins University. In 1971, when they had graduated, these three worked together to make a sound setup for the local bluegrass gathering or convention as it was. Matthew Polk was the one who thought up the speaker-system design though and George constructed the cabinets.

The people that put on the convention though, wound up not being able to pay the three for their audio system. So Polk Audio was launched with a logo designed by George. Sandy was in charge of marketing the company and developing its dealer network worldwide.

Polk Audio played around with pro audio for awhile before settling in on the high-end audio equipment for the home. Today this company is still making home-audio speakers and other equipment using the latest advancements in technology.
